The AFLPO 2022 Gala

Via Livestream from The Weill Music Room, Carnegie Hall, the American Friends of the London Philharmonic Orchestra honored soprano Renée Fleming with the AFLPO Lifetime Achievement Award in Classical Music during the gala evening event on March 1, 2022. The evening featured performances from special guest violinist Randall Goosby, students from the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, and members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The AFLPO 2021 Gala

Hosted by award–winning musical theater writer, producer, and author Stephen Cole, the livestreamed AFLPO 2021 Gala featured interviews with and performances by the LPO’s Junior Artists and their teachers, an LPO musician masterclass with the students of Merit School of Music in Chicago, and a special performance by violinist Gil Shaham.

The AFLPO 2020 Gala

Presented by the American Friends of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (AFLPO), the 2020 Gala took place in the stunning Weill Recital Room at Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. The evening raised much–needed funds for the Orchestra’s New York tours, its educational activities in the U.S., and its work with American musicians and composers. Attendees were entertained with exquisite performances from violinist Leila Josefowicz, a special performance from the students of LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts, and chamber music from members of the LPO. The night culminated with a live auction led by C. Hugh Hildesley, MBE, Vice Chairman, Sotheby’s Americas.

The AFLPO 2019 Gala

The AFLPO’s most successful fundraising year ever ended with the 2019 New York Gala which took place in the Weill Music Room at Carnegie Hall and featured performances by Jeremy Denk and Members of the LPO. The AFLPO paid tribute to composer Howard Shore who received the Lifetime Award for Achievement in Classical Music. Guests were treated to the esteemed eloquence of auctioneer Hugh Hildersley MBE with lots including Tea & Pimms at the House of Commons with Nigel Evans MP; a private recital with tenor Kang Wang; and a week’s stay for eight people at a luxury villa in Provence.

The AFLPO 2018 50th Anniversary Gala

The American Friends of the London Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated their 50th Anniversary on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Morgan Library and Museum. The evening celebrated the achievements of the London Philharmonic Orchestra with exclusive performances by LPO Musicians, special guests, and the presentation of the annual AFLPO Lifetime Achievement Award to World–renown pianist, Emanual Ax from Antony Phillipson, British Consul–General, New York. The AFLPO 2017 Benefit Gala

The American Friends of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (AFLPO) held its third annual Gala Dinner in the Weill Music Room at Carnegie Hall, New York, attended by Antonia Romeo, Her Majesty’s Consul General and Director General for Economic and Commercial Affairs along with 140 people from the worlds of business, philanthropy and the arts, and raised funds in support of the Orchestra’s activities. Thomas Hampson was honoured on the evening with the inaugural AFLPO Lifetime Achievement Award along with performances by artists who appeared in the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s tour to New York featuring Lincoln Center concerts on 26 and 27 February. Violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja performed Ravel’s Tzigane; pianist Jan Lisiecki performed Chopin’s Andante Spinato et Grand Pollonaise Brillante; and soprano Sofia Fomina gave a selection of songs by Strauss and Rachmaninoff accompanied on the piano by London Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor, Vladimir Jurowski.

The Board of Directors of the American Friends of the London Philharmonic Orchestra hosted its annual benefit Gala to celebrate the LPO’s return to New York. This very special musical evening featured cocktails, a black tie seated dinner, and a private concert by world renowned pianist Emanual Ax and performance by violinist Karina Cannelakis, Assistant Conductor of the Dallas Symphony and recipient of the 2015 Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Award for young conductors. Private Recital by Emanuel Ax

As a “taster” for the forthcoming US Tour in December 2011, members of the American Friends were entertained at the home of Simon Yates and Kevin Roon by pianist Emanuel Ax, who appeared with the Orchestra at Carnegie Hall that December. Mr. Ax very generously donated this recital, which was attended by over eighty guests and helped raise much–needed funds in support of the tour. [View photos.] |
